An animal salt lick.
- The name porcupine come from Middle French porc d' epine, meaning spined pig, hence the name "quill pig" for the rodent.
Salt licks are placed nearby roads and other areas so porcupines eat those instead of peoples' properties.
In ancient times, people believed porcupines threw their quills at an enemy.
Porcupines have become a pest in Kenya, and now are eaten as a delicious meal.:(
